CRAFS FiT-Hub strengthens community engagement through participation in Farmers’ Market Events

The Centre for Resilient Agri-Food Systems’ (CRAFS) Food Innovation and Technology Hub (FiT-Hub) participated in Farmers’ Market Day events held in Zomba and Dedza.

CRAFS FiT-Hub joined the Farmers’ Market Day at Domino Lodge on 13th September 2025, led by the FIT-Hub Team Lead Manager, Dr. Victoria Ndolo.

The event provided the Hub with a significant opportunity to meet and interact with farmers, small business owners, consumers, and potential funders.

The team showcased a variety of products developed through FiT-Hub’s support, including solar-dried tomatoes and apples, nutritious paste and drinks, sweet potato flour, and Chirungamo cookies.

Two FiT-Hub incubatees, Mr. Austin Munthali and Mr. Hope Tolotolo, who recently attended trainings conducted by the FIT-Hub PIT team with support from CRAFS, also presented their innovations.

Mr. Munthali showcased the Zakudimba App, a digital platform designed to advertise and promote various food products While Mr. Tolotolo displayed his locally made peanut butter, which attracted the interest of many guests.

Additionally, the CRAFS FiT-Hub team participated in the Joint Commemoration of the 2025 World Food Day and the Africa Day for Food and Nutrition Security held at Mnyanga Village in Dedza on 30th October 2025.

The event was graced by the Minister of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development, Hon. Roza Fatch Mbilizi.

The FiT-Hub team exhibited various products, including Chirunga Nutritious Paste, Chirunga Cookies, Chirunga Nutritious Drink, and Thanzi sorghum flour, among others.

The aim of participating in these farmers’ market events was to showcase CRAFS Fit-Hub supported food innovations, engage with farmers, consumers, and potential partners, gather feedback on products and market interest, and support incubatees in real-world product testing and promotion.

Participating in such events not only aligns with FiT-Hub’s mission to transform good ideas into market-ready products and to build a stronger, more resilient food system in Malawi, but also helps to build a visible connection with the community and strengthen engagement with farmers, consumers, and other stakeholders.
