April 18 2025
Participants - District Agricultural Officers from the Southern Region
The Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with the Centre for Resilience and Agri Food Systems (CRAFS), successfully conducted a two-day training on the Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS) for District Agricultural Officers from the Southern Region. The training took place from the 7th to the 8th of April 2025 at Mount Soche Sunbird in Blantyre, and aimed to enhance data collection and analysis for informed agricultural planning and service delivery.
AMIS is a digital platform designed to collect, process, analyze, and disseminate agricultural data. It supports evidence-based decision-making, ensures access to reliable market information, and promotes transparency and efficiency in agricultural markets.
During the training, various AMIS data collection tools were introduced to the participants, including the field crops and meat products retail market survey, the farm gate survey, the horticultural crops retail market survey, the livestock retail and wholesale market survey, and the agricultural input market survey.

The sessions began with a hands-on review of the physical questionnaires used for each tool, followed by practical demonstrations on how to log in, collect data accurately including capturing correct GPS coordinates and sync the information. Trainers emphasized the importance of collecting data through actual field visits, discouraging the submission of entries without visiting the location.
The training was well-received by participants and marked a significant step forward in strengthening agricultural data systems across the region. Attendees expressed gratitude for the opportunity, noting that the knowledge and skills acquired would have a meaningful impact on improving agricultural planning and service delivery.
