One of the Centre Resilient Agri-Food Systems’ (CRAFS) interns, Florence Tina Mwalwanda, recently attended Open Hardware and Open Software Solutions for Sustainable Development in Cape Town, South Africa. The International Centre for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), and UNESCO organised the workshop.
At the workshop, Florence actively participated in the Open Software group, immersing herself in hydrological modelling with a specific focus on the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT+). This is an instrumental tool in watershed and water quality assessments, which are crucial for sustainable water management.
The workshop was a treasure trove of knowledge, featuring insightful lectures on AI, Machine Learning, Data Science, Water Management, and Hydrological Modelling with SWAT+. Florence believes the insights she got from these sessions will help enhance the ongoing projects at CRAFS.
As with such gatherings, Florence says the workshop fostered beautiful interactions and networking opportunities with participants from various African countries, especially from the southern region.
