Elias Mwakilama, Phd

Elias P. Mwakilama, PhD, is CRAFS’s Deputy Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator and an Associate Professor in Mathematical Sciences at the University of Malawi. He has over ten years of teaching and research experience in statistics, mathematics, statistics for the social sciences, applied statistics for the humanities, and operations research. He holds a Doctorate in Computational Mathematics from Pan African University Institute for Basic Sciences, Technology and Innovation hosted by Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology, Kenya. He currently serves in several academic and administrative positions, including Coordinator of MSc & PhD in Mathematical Sciences and Deputy Monitoring and Evaluation Coordinator in the Mathematical Sciences. Elias conducts research in multiple disciplines and employs different techniques and methodologies in Mathematics and Statistics. He is experienced in using data management tools such as CSPro and ODK platforms and data analysis tools such as Matlab, R-studio, Stata, SPSS and Excel. He is a Project lead for (i) A mathematical analysis of dog mediated human rabies dynamics in Malawi: The role of multiple interventions in disease control under the RSTMH Early Career Grants, (ii) Data for Journalism under ACU Mobility Research Grant between University of Malawi and University of Eswatini. He has worked as (i) Project lead analysing Data Informing the Government’s Decisions on COVID-19 response in Malawi; (ii) Statistician for Baseline and Midterm surveys for the Tiwalere II- Interpersonal Psychotherapy in Groups (IPT-G) Study project for Feed the Children Malawi (2017-19), and (iii) Monitoring and Evaluation and Data Specialist for Baseline data collection for the development of National Agriculture Management Information System for the Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation (2018-19) and Data handling and technical mentor for Open Contracting project for Hivos.
